Course Overview

Comprehensive program to prepare students as ophthalmic technicians who assist ophthalmologists and optometrists with patient assessment, diagnostic testing and clinic workflow.

Duration

1–2 years (many reputable programs follow a 2-year diploma model with clinical rotations).

Eligibility

10+2 (science recommended) or equivalent.

Course Outline / Modules

• Medical terminology & ocular anatomy/physiology
• Clinical skills: visual acuity, refraction basics, tonometry, visual fields
• Imaging basics: fundus photography, OCT (overview)
• Pre-operative and post-operative patient care
• Sterilization, minor theatre assistance and instrument care
• Pharmacology for eye care (ocular drugs & safety)
• Ethics, patient counselling & recordkeeping
• Extended clinical practicum / rotations in ophthalmology departments

Assessment & Certification

Practical rotations + written assessments and clinical competency sign-offs. Certification from Future Vision Center; pathways supported for national faculty exams where relevant.
